Wings Cafe owner faces wrongful death lawsuit

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Tom Kim, the owner of Wings Cafe in Macon, is facing another legal issue after last month’s fatal shooting at his nightclub.

The widow of one of the victims filed a wrongful death lawsuit against him. Beatrice Jackson filed a civil lawsuit Wednesday morning in Bibb County State Court. She is accusing Kim of being responsible for the death of her husband, Derrick Jackson.

According to the complaint, Jackson’s death resulted from the “inadequate security measures” at the nightclub. Beatrice wants Kim to pay for her emotional loss, her husband’s medical expenses, and the total value of his life.

Kim could agree to a 2-million dollar settlement.

The Jackson family attorney released the following statement to 41NBC:

“The family has filed a lawsuit in the Bibb County State Court seeking compensation for the untimely loss of life they have endured, and for the pain, suffering, lost wages and medical expenses that Derrick suffered for the six days he survived the acts of violence that took his life. These failures cost three lives, including Derrick’s, and the family is taking steps to protect its rights through the civil justice system.  Derrick’s family asks for your prayers and kind words as they lay their father, husband, brother, and son to rest, and hope that the civil justice system will right these wrongs in a fair and impartial way.”

41NBC reached out to Kim’s attorney for a comment on the lawsuit, but we have not heard back yet.
