MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The mobile, high-tech program allows students to participate in immersive virtual missions that mirror real Navy operations, from launching fighter jets aboard an aircraft carrier to navigating a submarine beneath Arctic ice. The goal is to introduce students to the wide range of STEM-based careers available in the Navy while emphasizing teamwork, problem-solving, and innovation.

Military Liaison for Bibb County Schools Glenn Towles says the experience opens doors for students beyond the classroom.

“This is very important for Bibb County Schools because we give our kids exposure to the military life, scholarships, and opportunities beyond high school,” Towles said. “It gives them a chance to see what’s available for them in the job market and the world.”

Each Strike Group station focuses on different career fields, highlighting technology-driven roles across aviation, special operations, engineering, and submarine operations.

Navy Recruiter Jeffrey Franklin explained that the experience mirrors how Navy teams work together in real-life missions.

“Each trailer represents a certain job aspect of the Navy, what’s considered a strike group,” Franklin said. “Each group comes with different types of jobs, from rescue operations to special forces.”

Bibb County Schools officials say the program aligns with their focus on preparing students for life after graduation, whether through college, career training, or military service, one of the district’s “three E’s”: Enrollment, Employment, and Enlistment.

Students who show strong interest in STEM fields may also qualify for Navy ROTC scholarships, which can cover tuition and future career training.

The Navy’s Strike Group experience will remain at Hutchings College and Career Academy through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
