Wilkinson County woman killed in single car accident near her home

IRWINTON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A fatal accident claimed the life of a Wilkinson County woman, who lived two miles from the scene of the accident.

The single car accident happened Monday around 3:45 p.m., on High Hill Street in Irwinton, according to Wilkinson County Coroner Billy Matthews.

The woman, identified as 54-year-old Joy Yvonne Miller, was traveling east on High Hill Street in Irwinton.

“She was traveling east bound on Highway 57 and crossed over the lane,” said Matthews. “She hit the curb and then knocked down a power pole cutting it in two.”

Witnesses told investigators Miller was slumped over the steering wheel when she drove out of her lane, added Matthews.

“The front end of her car hit a tree,” he continued.

When rescue workers arrived, Miller was talking, but she later died at the scene of the accident, according to Matthews.

Matthews also said the Georgia State Patrol troopers drew blood on the scene and are awaiting the results.

The Wilkinson County Coroner revealed Miller was a diabetic.

High Hill Street becomes Georgia Highway 57. Miller lived on Hwy. 57 two miles from the accident scene, said Matthews.

No one else was injured in the accident.
