Wilkinson Co. Murder Trial Will Not Start on Wednesday

IRWINTON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The murder trial of Zachary Allen Beck will not start on Wednesday.

Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit District Attorney Fred Bright tells 41 NBC they are expecting “to have a hearing in the morning [Wednesday] to schedule when the trial will actually begin.”

This comes after the defense filed a motion for a one-day continuance on Tuesday. Lead defense attorney Ricky Morris was feeling ill and he’s not expected to appear in court Wednesday morning.

Bright says the jury is still called to come in at 9 a.m.

Opening statements were expected to start Tuesday and the state was going to call its first of 22 witnesses. Bright says even with the delay, his team is prepared to start in the trial.

“We’re ready on the case. We’ve been ready on the case,” he said. “It got continued several months back one time, but we’re ready on the case and I’m looking forward to giving the family some closure. I think they’re ready for closure too.”

Beck is on trial for killing 54-year-old Ronnie Willis Rozier on January 6, 2011. Beck allegedly robbed and killed Rozier at his home off Parker Springs Church Road in McIntyre.
