White, GC Women’s Cross Country Second at Captain Chris Invite
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (GCSU RELEASE) – Sophomore Lena White (Smyrna, Ga.) came less than a full second from her first career race win, charging the Georgia College cross country team to a second-place finish at the Captain Chris Invitational at Christopher Newport University.
White washed the 5K course for a 19:42, beating a quartet of CNU runners by 14 seconds. The time was a personal best for White, and the third best time in school history.
Sophomore Rachel Pasko (Jefferson, Ga.) finished second on the squad and seventh overall among 26 runners in 20:25, leading a trio of Bobcats. Taylor Roeck (Cumming, Ga.) was eighth and Bekah Houston (Dalton, Ga.) ninth in 20:29 and 20:36, respectively.
Rounding out the scoring for Georgia College was junior Whitney Sweet (Roswell, Ga.) in 13th at 21:08.
The Bobcats had 39 team points, losing to host CWU by 10. The Captains are members of the NCAA Division III Capital Athletic Conference (CAC).
GC cross country is back in action Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Championships in Americus, Ga.
