What’s Right With Our Schools: Wells Elementary third graders use Khan Academy website as a learning tool

GRAY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Wells Elementary is using an educational website to help its students succeed in all subjects.

The website, Khan Academy, is a teaching tool that is accessible to parents and teachers that offers individualized programs in various subjects.

“They are able to use it to remediate skills that perhaps they need extra practice in, and for the students that are already mastering grade levels standards, they can use it as an enrichment program,” says third grade teacher, Christi McDaniel.

It includes educational games and instructional videos that teaches students math concepts.

Users get a chance to watch a video that shows them how to solve problems. Then, they take quizzes for practice.

Many of the students say, the visual learning help them stay on track.

“The videos help you a lot and then like if you can’t remember anything, you can go back to the video,” adds third grader, Ellie Wealot.

Parents can log on to Khan Academy.org and click on the “parents start here tab” to work with students from home.
