West Laurens’ Cummings Named GHSF Daily Week Six Player of the Week
Senior Raider Running Back Ty Cummings earned himself the honors after a big region road win over Harlem

DEXTER, Georgia – (41NBC/WMGT) – West Laurens senior running back Ty Cummings has been recognized as the Week Six Player of the Week by the Georgia High School Football Daily for his performance in the Raiders’ 26-21 region win over Harlem last Friday night.
Cummings rushed for 223 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries. His 62-yard touchdown run with 11:12 remaining in the game proved to be the winning score against the defending region champions.
The senior is now just seven yards shy of 500 rushing yards this season and is closing in on school history.
“It means a lot,” Cummings said. “They came to our school and beat us on homecoming, and we just came out with we are going to beat them this year. That’s what we did.”
Head coach Kip Burdette praised his senior leader.
“He’s a really good player, but he’s one of our hardest workers too,” Burdette said. “It makes things a lot easier when one of your better players are your hardest workers. He along with other seniors, they’ve been a great group. They’re really coachable, they’re really fun to be around. He’s done a really good job of doing the little things, and just the teachers in the school building love him. You know, his teammates love him for the most part. He’s just a really good kid on top of being a really good football player.”
