Wesleyan College equestrian program put on pause as school seeks new operator

Wesleyan will work to find new lessee/operator to run Equestrian Center
Wesleyan Equestrian Program Shutting Down

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Wesleyan College has paused its historic equestrian program as it searches for a new operator for its equestrian center, Wesleyan spokesperson Michael Tarr confirmed Wednesday.

The decision marks a significant shift for the program, which has been a part of the college’s history since the 1920’s. Tarr stated that while the program has “played a very meaningful role on our campus,” participation has “ebbed and flowed” over the years.

Tarr says the school is actively looking for a lessee to take over operations and that the goal is to find an operator who can continue using the space for its intended purpose. As of now, Wesleyan has not identified a potential lessee, but plans to “go to market and work to find an operator who cares as much for the space as our community does.”

He also clarified that no individuals or groups had misused the facility, and the decision was not linked to any misconduct.

“We are incredibly grateful for the dedication and accomplishments of our equestrian community over the years,” Tarr said. “We are committed to supporting the boarders and our students through this transition. We are also hopeful that this sport will one day return to campus.”
