Welcome Park improvements in Perry bring new play features and seating downtown
City leaders unveil musical play features and new seating as part of efforts to make Welcome Park a destination in downtown Perry

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – City leaders in Perry are celebrating new improvements at Welcome Park in historic downtown that are designed to make the space more inviting for families, visitors and the local community.
Officials held a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday to highlight the new additions, which they say are part of a broader effort to make the park more of a destination rather than a place people simply pass through.
The upgrades include flower inspired musical play elements that allow visitors to interact with the space, as well as a new picnic table where people can sit and spend time while visiting downtown.
Downtown Manager Alicia Hartley with the City of Perry said the park has long existed as a spot that many people overlook, and the goal of the improvements is to encourage people to stop and enjoy the space.
“Welcome Park has been here for many years, but it’s easily passed through or looked over. It’s not really seen as a destination so we wanted to give something for the people to come to when they come visit Welcome Park,” Hartley said.
City leaders say the upgrades cost about $11,000 and are part of ongoing efforts to create welcoming public spaces throughout downtown Perry.
Welcome Park is located at 1033 Macon Road.
