Week Nine Macon TD Club Players of the Week

Here are your Macon Touchdown Club players of the week for Week Nine of the High School Football Season

MACON, Georgia – (41NBC/WMGT) – Monday night, the Macon Touchdown Club honored the three best players from Week Nine last week in Macon High School football. Here are your three players of the week.

Back of the Week: FPD Junior Quarterback and Safety Major Simmons completed 11 of 15 passes for 243 yards and three touchdowns through the air while accumulating 12 rushes for 66 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Simmons had nine tackles on defense as well – in the Vikings 49-21 win over John Milledge Academy.

Lineman of the Week: Rutland Junior Defensive Lineman Antonio Slocumb recorded nine tackles, including four tackles for loss and two forced fumbles in the Hurricanes 41-0 loss to Callaway.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Tattnall Square Academy Senior Kicker/Punter Carson Burnett had 5 punts, averaging 42 yards, with one downed at the five yard line. Burnett also went four for four on extra points in the Trojans 28-12 win over Stratford Academy.

The Honorary Guest of the night was Central Head Coach Jarrett Laws. The Special Guest Speaker of the night was Fort Valley State Head Coach Shawn Gibbs. In his third year at the helm of the Wildcats with 20 wins under his belt, Coach Gibbs explains what this club means to his program.

“The reach these guys have across the entire state is something that you cant pass up” said Coach Gibbs Monday night.  “I’ve respected them from a distance for a while now since I’ve been down here and now to have the opportunity to get in front of these guys and talk to them, and share with them a little bit about our program, and the vision for our future, that’s an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.  Bibb County is a place that we have to do a great job of recruiting. Recruiting locally is the most important thing for our program if we want to grow to the status that we want to go to, and that’s being a nationally relevant program. We feel like Middle Georgia has some of the best talent in the state and being able to speak in front of an organization like this gives us a leg up on our competition, and allows us to make some connections that otherwise we wouldn’t be able to make.”
