Week-Long Kwanzaa Festivities Set to Begin in Macon

The Festival of First Fruits begins nationwide the day after Christmas, and celebrations are underway in the city of Macon.

George Muhammad, President of the Kwanzaa Cultural Access Center in Macon, says Kwanzaa is a celebration of remembering human history and traditions, primarily those from Africa.

“This is a (meaningful) way of regaining a sense of culture, and sense of who you are,” Muhammad says.

Kwanzaa was founded in the 1960’s, and is based on seven basic principles to restore people to a higher quality of life.

Every night this week, the Kwanzaa Cultural Access Center is hosting events to mark the celebration.
