What weight-loss drugs mean for wedding dress fittings
New waivers aim to protect stores from costly alterations

(CNN)- Some bridal shops are now asking brides to sign legal waivers as rapid weight loss tied to popular medications creates new challenges for fittings and alterations.
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, stores are seeing more customers lose significant weight in a short period of time, making it harder to ensure dresses will fit by the wedding date.
The issue is linked to the growing use of GLP-1 medications, which are commonly prescribed for weight loss and can lead to quick changes in body size.
Retailers say the waivers are designed to protect businesses from financial losses when a dress no longer fits and cannot be altered or returned.
The medications can cause some customers to drop a full dress size within weeks, complicating the traditional timeline for ordering and tailoring gowns.
David’s Bridal says it has seen a shift in shopping behavior, with rush wedding dress orders doubling in recent years.
Instead of ordering gowns months in advance, more brides are now purchasing dresses just weeks before their wedding.
Data from Zola shows that about 10% of couples getting married this year report using GLP-1 medications.
