Weaver Middle schooler wins annual Bibb spelling bee

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One Weaver Middle School 8th grader can now say he’s the spelling champion in Bibb County. 

Rahul Patel and 31 other Bibb students participated in the 2015 Bibb County Spelling Bee. The event, held at Central High School, showcased the county’s top spellers as they have the possibility of representing the state on a national level at a national bee in Washington, D.C.

The winning word, “typhoon,” is one Patel says he’s heard before and knew right away how to spell it. 

“I’ve studied for about four weeks, for a few hours every day,” Patel said. 

He will now have an opportunity to participate in the district spelling bee in Fort Valley in February.
