Weather Forecast for June 30, 2014

Middle Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Heat indexes are expected to get up to the triple digits for many parts of the viewing area the next few days as temperatures climb to the upper 90s.  This will likely be the hottest we’ve been so far this year as we’ve put highs around 97 this week.  Rainfall chances are going to be low, so without rain-cooled air, there won’t be much that will help to keep temperatures down for most of Middle Georgia.  Always remember to both apply and reapply sunscreen and drink plenty of water if you’re going to be outside in the middle of the afternoon.

We’re also monitoring a low pressure system off the coast of Florida which we expect to become at least a tropical depression this week.  If it becomes a tropical storm, it will be named Arthur, our first named storm of the season.  It’s a small system at the moment, and due to its size, it could come close to the coast of Georgia and still not affect us.  At the moment, it looks like the worst we’ll get are bands of rain and storms, and I want to reiterate that is if it gets close enough to Middle Georgia.  Also, it won’t affect our Independence Day, so don’t worry about the holiday!

Overall, watch the system as far as if it’ll bring us rain and change your afternoon plans, but don’t worry about the system as it’s nothing to be afraid of.  We’re hoping to keep the rainfall chances low for the 4th of July!
