Weather Forecast for July 1, 2014

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Sweltering heat takes over today as temperatures are forecasted to climb to the upper 90s.  Incorporate the humidity into that, and it will feel like it’s in the triple digits this afternoon.  The UV (ultraviolet) index is 10, which means we have a high risk of overexposure to UV radiation from the sun.  Limit outdoor activity between 10 AM – 4 PM.  If you have to be outdoors, use a broad spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen and re-apply every two hours (I usually do every 80 minutes) and drink plenty of fluids.  The minute you feel dizzy, go get some shade and hydrate yourself, because that’s a red flag that you’ve been outside too long.

The chance for rain is low the next several days.  Ordinarily that would be great news, but as some of us saw yesterday, rain and storms help cool the area, so expect the heat to continue with temperatures settling by the week’s end.  It’ll still be hot, but not upper 90s hot.  The 4th of July so far looks great, so let’s hope to keep it that way! Just a 20% chance of afternoon storms so far with the GFS and Euro models mostly dry!
