Weather Channel Films Segment at Guardian Centers in Perry

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A first responder training facility in Perry is gaining national attention. On Tuesday, crews with the Weather Channel spent the day filming a segment at the Guardian Centers.

The Guardian Centers in Perry is considered one of the most advanced training facilities in the United States. The mock cityscape offers first responders training for natural disasters and terrorist attacks.

“It produces more life-like scenarios of what you encounter on a daily basis,” said Rodney Wall, Georgia Bureau of Investigations Special Agent in Charge.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigations used cars to demonstrate the strength of tornadic winds. The scenarios will be aired on The Weather Channel Tornado Week.

“This facility is incredible to be able to simulate what simulate here. Look behind me, it looks like a scene from 9/11. They just dropped a car 30 stories,” said Jim Cantore with the Weather Channel.

General Motors donated the 300 cars used in the scene.
