Watching the skies for severe storms

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect through 8pm. We already saw a warning posted in Taylor County earlier in a short-lived severe storm and will continue to monitor the skies for more. What we have is a situation where CAPE (convective available potential energy) is high enough to support severe storms. Not widespread, though, but isolated. High winds and frequent lightning are the biggest concerns.

The chance for rain continues through Saturday, shifting between 20 and 40 percent so far, though I expect Saturday chances to get bumped up as we get closer to the weekend. That’s due to a cold front that will move into Georgia and, yes, bring cooler and drier weather just in time for Easter! Perfect timing.

Before that can happen, expect much warmer than average temperatures through Friday, with 80s prominent for our highs.
