Washington State Prison inmate caught after brief escape
Sheriff Joel Cochran said deputies were notified September 14 that an inmate had escaped from the facility just after 6 a.m.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – An inmate from Washington State Prison was captured Sunday morning after escaping, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Joel Cochran said deputies were notified September 14 that an inmate had escaped from the facility just after 6 a.m.
The inmate was returned to custody within 30 minutes.
Sheriff Joel Cochran released the following statement:
“I appreciate the dedication exhibited by all involved in the capture and return of this prisoner. Special thanks to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office for responding and assisting in this effort.”
