Washington Memorial Library Offers Free Computer Classes

If learning how to use a computer is something you need to master, but spending the money on training programs is out of the question, Washington Memorial Library in Macon has the answer for you.

Free classes are being offered on weekdays on the second floor of the library, to help you master the keyboard.

The program is part of grant money given to Washington Memorial by the Knight Foundation, to expand and update the library’s facilities.

Catie Tierney, a Reference Librarian at Washington Memorial, says more than 500 people have already signed up to learn how to use a computer.

“We’re looking to fill the gaps in the digital literacy gap,” Tierney says. “They’re (the classes) are taught by trained staff members.”

The classes teach basic computer skills like email, microsoft word, and typing. Eventually more intermediate classes will be taught, to teach skills like resume writing and how to look for jobs.

Classes are taught on a first come, first serve basis.

Students need to have a PINES library card, which can be obtained at any Bibb County library.
