Warner Robins Woman Recovers After Fox Attack
WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Patricia Douglas credits her neighbors for saving her after she was attacked by a rabid fox outside of her home Thursday.
Douglas said she was in her yard babysitting her neighbor’s children, Samantha and Loren Driskell, when she heard a scuffle. A cat came running through the fence and behind it, Douglas said was a dark gray fox. She said the fox ran away at first, but when it returned it came after Samantha.
“I was scared, I didn’t really know what to do,” said nine-year-old Samantha.
In order to protect the kids, Douglas told Samantha to run inside. She said that’s when the animal came after her. The fox bit Douglas three times; she fell to ground breaking her wrist.
“I ran over to Loren and told him to call 911,” Samantha said.
“Soon as I opened the door, she told me to that Ms. Patty’s being attacked by a fox,” 11-year-old Loren said, “and then I got my Shepard’s stick and ran outside.”
While Loren called the police, a neighbor attempted to trap the fox under a bin. But it ran away. Officers later captured a fox and it tested positive for rabies. Douglas is now being treated for rabies. Samantha and Loren are still recovering from the scare.
“I’m a little scared to go out the house without anybody,” Samantha said.
Shortly after Douglas’ attack, a mother and child were attacked by a fox in the 100 block of Tranquil Pointe. Officers believe the same fox was involved in both incidents.
