Warner Robins residents meet the council and mayoral candidates

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Warner Robins residents got up close and personal with candidates running for mayor and council at the “Meet the Candidates” discussion hosted by the Curtis Agency on Thursday night.

“A politician said years ago–if you turn the lights on, the roaches will run for cover. It’s time to turn the lights on in Warner Robins, Georgia,” said mayoral candidate Joe Musselwhite.

Upcoming elections in Warner Robins will determine which way that proverbial light will shine going into the next four years.

“I think we’re at a point now where citizens need to be more involved and educated and not take our votes for granted,” said resident Bohdana Conyers.

That’s why residents like Conyers are thinking carefully on who they’ll give that power to.

“I really like to be a thoughtful voter. I take it very seriously,” she added.

Dozens came out to hear from mayoral and council candidates about the bugs and kinks in town they hope to work out.

“(We) heard different views on different topics that are all important. I made it clear tonight that the number one issue for me is public safety,” said Musselwhite.

In turn, residents got the chance to bring light to some concerns of their own.

“Just looking around and seeing businesses and buildings that have been dormant for many years, but then at the same time looking around and seeing new buildings and businesses coming up and just wondering what the plan is for old areas in Warner Robins,” said Conyers.

Mayoral candidate Joe Musselwhite says he’s got the answer and the experience to back it up.

“It’s in the targeted area of town where they may even be some local money to help with that,” he said.

The off switch for the current administration is steadily creeping near. But, the discussions to bettering their city are far from over.

The next public forum in Warner Robins is scheduled for this coming Tuesday, October 3rd.

The entire community is invited to come out and hear from mayoral candidates on a range of topics. Elections will take place on November 7th.
