Warner Robins Proposing 28.6 Million to Wastewater Plant Upgrades

The city of Warner Robins could spend more than $28.6 million to upgrade its Wastewater Treatment plant.

Thursday afternoon city Council and Mayor Chuck Shaheen met with the Haskell Company to talk about the proposed extension of the Sandy Run Creek plant. The city’s current facility can clean up to 9 million gallons a day. The upgrades will expand the plant’s daily capacity to 12 million gallons.

The project is scheduled to start this summer and be completed by 2014.

Mayor Shaheen says the treatment plant upgrades will help Warner Robins be more attractive to larger industries in the future.

“If an industry wanted to come down and they wanted to do two million gallons a day we couldn’t serve them. What this shows is that we’re going to line ourselves up to be an economic powerhouse for our community when you can bring in industries you can create jobs,” said Mayor Shaheen.

Mayor Shaheen says this is the first time since 1986 that the waste treatment plant has seen upgrades.

The council and mayor will vote on the project next Tuesday.
