Warner Robins officer, woman critically injured in ambush shooting; suspect identified
Police say 21-year-old Rashaun Williams ambushed responding officer; GBI leading investigation

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. (41NBC/WMGT)- A Warner Robins police officer and a woman are in critical condition after a shooting police say was an ambush during a response call.
At a news conference this afternoon, Warner Robins Police Chief Wayne Fisher identified 21-year-old Rashaun Williams as the offender in the investigation. Fisher said Williams ambushed an officer who was responding to a call just after 8:30 a.m.
Victims hospitalized in critical condition
Chief Fisher says a 31-year-old woman was also shot. Her relationship to Williams remains part of the investigation.
The officer and the woman are both being treated at Atrium Health Navicent in Macon and are listed in critical condition. The injured officer is a 35-year-old patrol officer who has been with the Warner Robins Police Department for eight years.
Fisher said Williams was not injured and asked the public to keep the officer and the woman in their prayers.
Scene secured after barricaded suspect incident
Earlier in the day, the Warner Robins Police Department advised residents to avoid the area of Redmond Street as officers responded to a barricaded suspect.
Houston County Sheriff Matt Moulton confirmed that a Warner Robins police officer had been shot. Police said the scene was secured and there was no immediate threat to the public.
Suspect in custody, investigation continues
At approximately 11:20 a.m., Sheriff Moulton said a suspect was in custody and that the officer was in stable condition at that time.
At 10:40 a.m., 41NBC reporter Bre’Anna Sheffield spoke with Moulton, who said authorities had identified the suspect but were not yet releasing details. He also said the officer was being transported to a local hospital. Sheffield reported she was on scene as the Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrived.
The GBI is now leading the investigation.
Officials react to shooting
Sheriff Moulton described the incident as a violent and deliberate attack on a law enforcement officer.
Houston County District Attorney Eric Edwards said the shooting was among the most horrifying types of calls to receive.
