Warner Robins Man Threatens Cops, Police Use Social Media To Keep Community Informed
WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Warner Robins man could face charges after threatening to kill police officers and then leading them on a chase across two cities. Police used Facebook to keep the residents informed and safe.
Warner Robins police showed up to a home off McArthur Boulevard to check on 43-year-old Cliff Jacobs. His family called the police and said he was acting strange.
Police say Jones threatened to shoot the cops that arrived on scene. The SWAT team was called out to set up a perimeter around the house.
“We walk up the road and here comes two marshals, snipers, everything,” Hunter Poole, a resident who lives in the neighborhood, said. “[We asked] them what’s going on, he tells us to get inside, things are fixing to get nasty.”
Jacobs drove off in a silver truck before the SWAT team was able to set up a perimeter. Police chased him to Macon and eventually back to Warner Robins where they caught him at the Houston Medical Center. The suspect is still at the Houston Medical Center being evaluated by doctors.
Throughout this whole ordeal, the Warner Robins Police Department was updating its Facebook status.
“It’s amazing how fast that information is shared,” Public Information Officer for WRPD Tabitha Pugh said.
Pugh posted updates throughout the SWAT call out. She says it’s a great tool because the information gets out to everyone quickly.
“People need to know what’s going on,” she said. “It’s better to know that we have the situation under control than worrying about what was going on.”
