Warner Robins is Undefeated in the Regular Season for the First Time in Program History
The Demonettes went 23-0 and 8-0 in Region 1-4A play

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia – The Warner Robins Demonettes basketball team made history last week. After their 55-40 region road win over Wayne County on February 3, Head Coach Dr. Rebecca White and the Demonettes squad have now gone 23-0 in the regular season for the first time in program history.
Warner Robins girls basketball has a rich tradition of winning games, but after things didn’t go their way last season, the Demonettes stepped up to focus on winning it all.
“Last year I slacked up” said Coach White. “Some of the things discipline-wise, we weren’t very disciplined, and it twinkled to the court. So, we started changing the way we were doing things and even as coaches, I had to go back and analyze myself and makes some changes. I think that has been the biggest difference.”
After last seasons heartbreaking 76-71 first round loss to Harris County, Coach White recalls the moment it turned around, and spoke about the efforts they made to be great this season.
“I remember sitting in the locker room after the Harris County game, Trinitee Thomas was in tears, Korveanna (Slaughter) was in tears, they were all in tears” said Coach White. “I think that was the changing point and they got hungry. They realized what it took, they had been on a team where we always won. We lost and sometimes it takes losing to know how to get back to that stage. Starting in the summer, its just been a different bond. They started playing together, they do little things together, and they’re inseparable.
Dr. White went on to say, “They’ve had to change the way they walk in the halls, they’ve had to change the way they are in the classroom, and it’s kind of come to the court all at one time. Even my parents. They’re supportive, they’re in the fields cheering, and they are not just celebrating their child, they are celebrating other people’s children, and that’s really big in today’s time.”
Warner Robins Senior post player Cheyanne Phillips agreed with her head coach. “That was a hard game” said Phillips. “Dealing with our coaches motivating us to get to where we are. Practice hard at practice. We are just grinding. This is only the beginning.”
Confidence was high as the Demonettes headed into the Region Tournament after they swept the Region 1-AAAA during the regular season.
“We don’t want anyone to be number one” said Junior Post Player Janelle Turner.
“We are not satisfied right now” said Senior Point Guard Korveanna Slaughter. “We aren’t at the top yet.
“We feel so excited just to be here” said Phillips. “Just to be undefeated really.”
After these ladies have come this far, they all agree on what their main focus is now.
“Make it to state” all three ladies said. “But, we are taking it one day at a time. One game at a time.”
However, these players know that none of this happens without their head coach that has lead them this far.
“She pushes us super hard” said Phillips. “Everyday, she takes this sport really serious” said Slaughter. “Even after a good game, she still wants us to do better” all three ladies said.
When it comes to the post season, these Demonettes are locked in.
“New season, everyone is after you” said Coach White. “We got to stay hungry, we got to stay humble, we got to keep fighting one game at a time. We can’t look too far ahead. We made small goals. The first small goal was to go undefeated in the regular season. The next goal is the region championship.”
“You have to work everyday” said Slaughter.
According to Coach White, a fundraising trip to Florida, and Universal Orlando, lit a fire under these girls. She said she could not have done it without the support of Demon Country.
“The community may not realize this, but you have changed a lot of lives” said Coach White. “I’ve seen a lot of smiles out of these 14 girls, just by when they get off the bus, the different things they do. The ball changes your life, and the community has been apart of that so, thank you.”
The Demonettes have a message for the community and their future opponents. “We coming, we coming. All gas, no breaks.”
UPDATE: The Demonettes won their first Region Tournament game when they defeated Perry 76-38 on Monday night. Warner Robins will face Ware County on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Region 1-AAAA Championship.
