Warner Robins High School’s Callaway ready for college already

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Marquez Callaway had an incredible season for the Warner Robins Demons.

“Being able to go play is an honor,” said Callaway.

This fall, he’ll wear orange and white.

“They gave me a chance, like a lot of schools gave me a chance to go play, and I think Tennessee is going to be the best for me so hopefully I’ll do what I did here at Tennessee,” said Callaway.

The Tennessee Volunteers came calling, and Callaway answered.

He signed a letter of intent Wednesday morning in the school cafeteria.

“He’s just a pleasure to be around, he’s a great player but a lot better person,” said head coach Bryan Way.

Way knew Marquez would be a special player his sophomore year.

“First two games–first two rounds of the playoffs that year, he scored four touchdowns, two on offense and two on defense and that sort of opened everybody’s eyes,” said Way.

He may be able to catch tons of touchdowns, but that doesn’t mean he won’t feel like any other college kid.

“Going in it’ll be my first year I’m going to be a little nervous but it’s going to fade out eventually,” said Callaway. “Going to the next level is going to be great but I’ve gotta remained focused and keep the goal focused.”

He’ll have help from his Volunteers teammates.

“I know when I first came to high school I was the young guy with the older guys. So a lot of older guys took me in and they taught me a lot that I know now,” Callaway. “So, being able to go and play with those older guys they can teach me a lot, and hopefully I can teach them something back.”
