Warner Robins Filipino Women Aim To Provide Typhoon Relief

Thousands of miles away from their home country, two Filipino women witnessed the desolation caused by Typhoon Haiyan.

Now, they’re doing what they can to help rebuild from right here at home.

It’s heartbreaking for Anita Smith to watch from her Warner Robins home the devastation Typhoon Haiyan inflicted on her country.

She and Lottie Caldwell are both members of the Damayan Filipino American Association of Middle Georgia.

“I’m glad I’m able to help out–I’m glad I’m a part of the organization, the Damayan Filipino American Association,” said Caldwell.

With disaster relief for the Philippines pouring in from the United States, Lottie and Anita decided to help.

On Saturday, they plan to get their 60 or so members together to begin the process of collecting supplies and money to send to the Philippines.

“On Saturday, we’re trying to ask for monetary donations or whatever they can give,” said Smith.

And it’s a sense of patriotism for their country that drives both women to make a difference.

“It’s my country and I need to do something, because it’s really hardening to see all that,” said Smith.

“I do feel like we should help out, reach out to some of the people out here–especially our members,” said Caldwell.

So they will reach out. Moved by the horrible pictures on the news and their own sense of patriotism, these caring women will help lead the charge in relief efforts for their home country at a time when there’s a true need.

The ladies will host their fundraising event at the Recreation Center in downtown Warner Robins at 5 p.m, this Saturday, November 16th.
