Warming shelters open their doors ahead of freezing temperatures

Warming shelters will open February 19 and stay open until temperatures rise again.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Warming shelters will open Wednesday and stay open until temperatures rise again.

According to a news release from United to End Homelessness, the organization is working with Macon-Bibb County, local shelters, and the Homeless Coalition to give people in need somewhere warm to sleep. Many shelters will extend intake hours and are working to make room for more people. The shelters open to the community on February 19.

Expanded Intake Criteria during Activation

Extended Departure Hours:
February 20: 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
February 21: 8 a.m. – 10 a.m.
February 22: 8 a.m. – 9 a.m.

Brookdale Resource Center

Intake Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00  p.m.

Salvation Army Warming Station
Location: 1955 Broadway
Phone: 478-746-8572
Female & Family Intake: 4:30 p.m.
Male Intake: 5:00 p.m.
Extended Hours: Open until 11:00 p.m.
After 11 p.m., individuals will be accepted with a first responder. Extended hours remain in effect until habitable temperatures rise.
