MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Salvation Army of Greater Macon, located at 1955 Broadway, has had its warming shelter open for several weeks now.

“We have seen an increase in numbers just in the last couple of weeks that we have been serving,” said Latresa White, Social Services Director of The Salvation Army of Greater Macon.

“So we bring them in and we provide them a hot shower, we provide them meals, and on occasion we will provide them some case management services as well,” said White. “We allow them to stay in our facilities even into the morning time until the degree is up to 42 or greater.”

White says they are working closely with other organizations such as Daybreak, Loaves and Fishes, and United to End Homelessness, communicating daily with them to help make sure everyone in need is taken care of.

“We’ll call and let them know, hey, they’re headed your way. So the services continue to move forward for those displaced individuals,” White said.

The Salvation Army of Greater Macon is always accepting donations such as blankets, towels, washcloths, and monetary donations.

“We’re here serving. We’re also always seeking those that want to volunteer to help the individuals that we serve every day,” said White.
