Warmer today and much warmer this weekend

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Another warm-up today, though we’re still expecting pleasant temperatures this afternoon. Sunny today with a high of 67, and clear skies this evening with temperatures in the low 50s.

Ridging in the jet stream, plus winds shifting to the south, will create a much warmer environment this weekend. As you can tell from the picture, the highs will be well above the 63 degree norm as they rise to the low 70s. Overnight lows will bump up to the 40s and even the 50s by Sunday night.

A cold front arrives early next week, so I’ve raised the rain chance beginning Monday. Tuesday looks like the rainiest day overall with rainfall starting in the morning and rain pushing through at least parts of the viewing area throughout the day and evening. There’s enough instability that we could get some storms, though I’m not yet seeing any chance for severe weather.

Although the front is expected to leave on Tuesday, a wave of moisture will move through the area Wednesday. After that, weather dries out by the end of the work week and temperatures cool down. At the moment, I have 5os by the middle of next week with lows returning to the 30s.
