Walmart, Crisis Line & Safe House of Central Georgia partner to surprise underserved women this Mother’s Day

According to the Georgia Commission on Family Violence, there were nearly 130,000 reported adult victims of family violence across the state in 2023. That’s why Walmart is helping to make this Mother’s Day special for some lucky mothers.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Dozens of Middle Georgia women escaping unsafe living conditions will be surprised with self-care kits this Mother’s Day.

According to the Georgia Commission on Family Violence, there were nearly 130,000 reported adult victims of family violence across the state in 2023. That’s why Walmart is helping to make this Mother’s Day special for some lucky mothers.

“It’s just a joy to partner with a community that supports us every single day for mothers in need,” said Adrias Hale, Senior Director Market Manager of Walmart Middle Georgia Market 32.

Ten Walmart volunteers from different stores helped put together and deliver the kits to the Crisis Line & Safe House of Central Georgia. The Crisis Line & Safe House of Central Georgia supports family violence victims from seven Middle Georgia counties. Christina Wright, Crisis Line & Safe House Community Outreach Manager, says the gift bags will go to underserved mothers at the safe house who have fled domestic violence and or sexual assault.

“Oftentimes they come here, or they reach out for help because they don’t have anyone,” Wright said. “Or, they come to our shelter and they don’t have anything.”

The bags included items such as bath beads, nail polish, plush throws, slippers, candles, mascara and flowers. Hale says this year’s surprise marks the start of a tradition.

“This is the first year of this partnership that will go on for a very long time with Walmart and the Crisis Line & Safe House,” Hale said.
