Volunteers Work to Revitalize Warner Robins

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Local volunteers and organizations are joining forces to clean up the north side of Warner Robins.

Georgia Initiative for Community Housing, Keep Warner Robins Beautiful, Houston Habitat for Humanity and New Hope International Church are working to revitalize the Sewell Circle and Camellia Circle area.

New Hope International Church has worked in the community for years. Resident Rudy Kerr is happy to see more groups getting involved.

“When I first met them I asked one question,” Kerr said, “Was they going to be consistent and they kept that promise.”

Justin Gaston with New Hope International Church has been at the forefront of this effort.

“The environment is so important. I tell people all the time, we adapt to the environment that we are in and if you have a clean environment then your lifestyle adapts to that,” Gaston said.

Kerr says the clean up builds community pride and curbs crime.

“It’s not only cleaner but it’s just been a lot safer,” Kerr said.

Georgia Initiative for Community Housing is working with groups to set up regular cleaning days and teach residents to take control of their own community.

“If you’re emphasizing environmental concerns that’s helping everyone who lives there,’ said Tom Prior with the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing Committee.

Gaston said the group intends to clean up the community the third Saturday of every month.
