Volunteers in Warner Robins collect donations for Hurricane victims
WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – It may be hard for the average person to imagine losing everything, but luckily for people in Middle Georgia, it isn’t hard to help the people who have. Centerpoint Church in Warner Robins is doing just that and they need your help too.
For Hurricane Relief Volunteers like Kimberly Harper, boxes full of common house hold items have never meant so much.
“When you look at the devastation in Houston…people losing everything, you’ve got to have a heart to want to help and if this is how I can help, then I’ll do anything I can to help,” said Harper.
With areas of Houston completely under water and homes flooded, hundreds of thousands are without the basic necessities.
“You have people who are going to be starting from nothing,” Harper added.
“I think the picture that got me the most was the nursing home residents just sitting in water and that just shattered my heart,” said organizer April Fox.
That’s why she and Jessica Piper decided to do something about it.
“My sister and I started discussing ways that we could help with the relief donations. We felt the call, we listened to it, we felt the need and we just answered,” Fox continued.
They’re collecting everything from diapers and baby wipes to tooth brushes and feminine hygiene products.
“We’re taking batteries flash lights, cleaning supplies is a huge need, bug sprays–there are floating ant colonies,” she added.
Donating these basic items won’t bring back the lost or destroyed belongings of victims.
“For me the thing that would devastate me the most would be my memories such as photos or trinkets i have around the house that make me remember places that I’ve been to and things that I’ve done with my family,” Harper said.
But, boxes full of supplies for the hard months that lie ahead, will make a difference and leave Houston residents remembering the selfless strangers who sent them.
You can drop your items off to Centerpoint Church on Feagin Mill Road on Tuesday’s, Thursday’s and Saturday’s from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. or at Central Georgia Dentistry on 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. from Tuesday thru Thursday until September 19th.

Volunteers will make the trip to Houston to personally drop those donations off to the people who need them on September 22nd and return on the 24th.
