Volunteers clean up New Hope community

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Perry residents are cleaning up their neighborhoods, block by block. More than 45 volunteers spruced up streets, parks and vacant lots in the New Hope community, Saturday.

Perry Police Chief Steve Lynn, is spearheading neighborhood clean up day. it is a part of the city’s role in the georgia initiative for community program.

Some of the volunteers included, Boy Scout Troop 96, Phenomenal Women Fitness Group, Perry Police officers and Perry High school varsity girls basket ball team.

Chief Lynn says the community program is two fold.

“When we get out here, engage with the citizens, then that helps us build the bridges for this effort,” says Lynn. “It also helps us evaluate the neighborhoods to see what houses need some attention, see which ones may be sub standard to the point where they need to be demolished.”

Chief Lynn says the city’s next community clean-up day will be held in early 2015. It will focus on the Old Field neighborhood.
