(NBC)- Newly released video shows a California mother taking extreme action to stop burglars after learning her three young children were inside the home during a break-in.
The incident unfolded as the woman was away getting coffee while her mother was inside the house watching the children. While on the phone, she realized suspects were breaking in.
“I see the guys, and I was in panic. I was in shock,” the mother said. “I hit their car unintentionally.”
The woman, who asked not to be identified due to safety concerns, said her mother began screaming during the call, warning that the children were inside the house. Believing her family was in immediate danger, the mother raced home and rammed a parked sedan, later identified as the suspects’ getaway vehicle.
Video shows two burglary suspects fleeing on foot immediately after the collision. Moments later, a third man, believed to be the driver, climbs out of the passenger side and runs away. The impact was so severe that the driver’s side door of the sedan was jammed shut.
Additional video shows damage to the mother’s G-Wagon as police arrived and began collecting evidence. Investigators recovered handheld radios believed to have been used to monitor police activity. Homeowners also told police that their Wi-Fi and security cameras had been disabled during the burglary.
Police are continuing to search for the suspects.
