Vicious Dogs Terrorize Houston County Neighborhood

BYRON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – For weeks a Houston County neighborhood has been terrorized by a pack of dogs, and residents there are afraid for their safety.

The same 3 pitbulls are believed to have killed 3 pets in 3 weeks. The attacks are happening in the Bradford Estates Community off Highway 41 in Byron.  One of the pets was an 11 year-old Rottweiler mix named Blue.

Blue was attacked last Tuesday when the 3 pitbulls got into the gated backyard Blue was in.

His owner, Robert Johnson, describes Blue as a 77 year-old woman mutilated in his backyard.

Johnson says calls these vicious dogs four-legged beasts. “Monsters, that’s what we are dealing with here. It’s a monster. It’s a monster in the neighborhood.”

Johnson worries a child could be hurt next. “[Blue] was a big girl, and if they’re going to attack her in my fenced in backyard I’d think that they would attack a kid on a bike,” says Johnson.

According to Johnson, the Houston County Animal Control is well aware the same dogs keep attacking pets in the community. Officers told Johnson witnesses have described the pitbulls in other attacks. Officers have also come out a few times to look for the dogs, but he wants them to do more.

“If it was a bear or an alligator out in these neighborhoods they would be out and wouldn’t stop until it was taken care of,” says Johnson.

His neighbor, Vicky Moore, says she is fearful her 7 year-old child or her small dog will get attacked. “I’m afraid they are going to attack a person. It’s bad enough to attack the dogs they’re almost like our children,” says Moore.

Calls made to the Houston County Animal Control were not returned on Wednesday.
