Utility lines down after truck crash closes Pio Nono Avenue in Macon

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is asking drivers to avoid traveling towards Pio Nono Avenue at the intersection of Rocky Creek Road after a single-vehicle collision early Tuesday morning.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is asking drivers to avoid traveling towards Pio Nono Avenue at the intersection of Rocky Creek Road after a single-vehicle collision early Tuesday morning. The accident, reported to Macon-Bibb Emergency 911 at 6:56 a.m., has led to the closure of Northbound and Southbound lanes on Pio Nono Avenue at the intersection of Rocky Creek Road. 

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a truck traveling north on Pio Nono Avenue struck utility lines before entering the Rocky Creek Road intersection. The motorist of the truck did not stop. No injuries have been reported.  Officials confirm that utility lines have fallen and are currently blocking the roadway, causing the road closures and prompting an active investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.

Motorists traveling north on Pio Nono Avenue are being directed onto Interstate 75 North to avoid the collision site. Motorists traveling south on Pio Nono Avenue towards the intersection of Rocky Creek Road are redirected east and west on Rocky Creek Road as a detour. Officials are asking drivers to avoid the area until the scene has been cleared and lanes have reopened.  

It is unclear when the road will reopen.
