US Congressman Barrow questions the removal of former Carl Vinson VA Medical Center director

DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – US Congressman John Barrow is questioning the removal of the former director of the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin.

Barrow sent a letter to Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert McDonald dated on September 29. In it Barrow writes he was notified John Goldman was planning to retire on September 25. That is the same day Barrow says he learned Goldman was removed from his position.

Barrow’s letter continues to question if Goldman voluntarily retired or if he was fired and how that affects his benefits.

In the letter Barrow wrote, “These questions arise because of a distressing pattern of merging or compromising disputes about benefits that have been earned and sanctions for improper performance into deals where it is impossible to tell what, if anything, was done to sanction retirees from improper performance or duties.”

Barrow adds the allegations of data manipulations concerns him and he wants to make sure the government holds management accountable.

41NBC reached out to the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center Thursday for an update on this situation, but the spokesperson says they don’t have any new information.

Barrow (D) represents Georgia’s 12th Congressional District.
