Upward Bound Students Collect Coins for Charity
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Students in our area are making their coins count by collecting money in loose change and donating it to charity.
Macon’s Upward Bound group raised a little over a thousand dollars in pennies, nickels and dimes to donate to non-profit organizations. The federally funded program encourages students to go to college and give back to the community and the kids with Upward Bound did just that.
The high school students collected the money for their Pennies from the Heart project. They selected three groups that they felt were active community and on Wednesday presented them with checks. The students said the Pennies from the Heart Project was truly heart warming.
“It felt like on the inside it made you feel like a good person no matter you did,” said Upward Bound student Dalvin Andrews, “like even if you didn’t contribute a lot or contributed more, it made you like a good person.”
The Children’s Hospital at the Medical Center of Central Georgia , Susan G. Komen for the Cure in Central Georgia and the American Red Cross Central Georgia Chapter were this year’s selected recipients.
