UPDATE: Woman Identified in Fatal Accident on I-16 West in Macon
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One woman is dead and two men are in the hospital after a traffic accident which happened on I-16 west Thursday night around 7:15pm, according to Bibb-County Coroner Leon Jones.
Initially, it was believed that the Jeep the two men were in crossed over the median and slammed into a silver Honda Accord driven by 37-year-old Laurie Bowers of South Carolina, killing her.
After further investigation by the Bibb Sheriff’s Office, it was determined that both vehicles were traveling westbound when the collision occurred. An exact cause of the accident is still unknown at this time.
The driver of the Jeep, 19-year-old Thomas Duncan of Locust Grove, was taken to the hospital by ambulance along with his passenger, 19-year-old Spencer Rush of McDonough.
Duncan remains in critical, but stable condition, while Rush is listed in stable condition.
The Bibb Sheriff’s Office also believes there may possibly be a witness to the accident, and is asking anyone with information to call them at 478-751-7500 and leave a message for a Traffic Fatality Investigator.
