UPDATE: Wheeler County Man Facing Murder Charges for Shooting Brother-in-Law
GLENWOOD, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Wheeler County man is facing murder charges after he shot his brother-in-law, according to the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office.
Chief Deputy Roger Bryant tells 41NBC sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting at Apple Village Apartments Sunday morning. Bryant says 47-year-old Steve Sutton shot 47-year-old Butch Anderson.
GBI Special Agent in Charge Todd Lowery says the shooting happened at Sutton’s mother’s home.
Byrant says Sutton and Anderson are brother-in-laws. He adds it was a family dispute that escalated to the shooting.
Deputies say medical personnel were getting ready to air life Anderson to the hospital, but he had “complications” before the flight. He was pronounced dead at Lower Oconee Hospital after several attempts to save him. Deputies say he died as a result of his injuries.
The sheriff’s office called the GBI to help with the investigation.
Sutton is charged with murder. Sheriff Maurice Johnson says he went before a Magistrate judge on Monday and was denied bond.
This is the first murder investigation in Wheeler County since December 2011.
