UPDATE: Warner Robins Councilman Indicted, Faces Jail Time
According to a news release sent to 41 NBC from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Warner Robins City Councilman John Williams was arrested Tuesday and charged for getting money from a sale of a vehicle to the Warner Robins Police Department.
If convicted, Williams could face more than 40 years in prison and more than $750,000 in fines.
He now faces three counts: extortion, making false statements to the FBI, and tampering with a witness.
“My office is committed to fighting criminal activity wherever it is found, whether that be on the city streets or in the city hall,” said U.S. Attorney Michael Moore today in a statement to 41NBC news.
Councilman Bob Wilbanks says Williams is no stranger to controversy.
