UPDATE: Teenager in custody, accused of murder of Fort Valley man

UPDATE (2/25/25) – A teenager from Albany has been arrested in connection to a Fort Valley murder in 2024.

Fort Valley Police Chief DJ Flores Says 18-year-old Ja’Qwan Johnson is in custody for the shooting death of Naun Mendez.

Johnson was arrested in Albany on unrelated charges, and the Fort Valley Police Department was notified of his apprehension.

He has been charged with murder.

FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A man was shot and killed on Saturday in Fort Valley, according to Chief of Police DJ Flores.

Deputies were dispatched to a fight with weapons on October 5 at approximately 3:23 a.m. in the 400 block of Boulevard Street.

Deputies arrived on scene and found a man lying face down with a gunshot wound to the chest. Deputies attempted life saving measures, but they were unsuccessful.

The Fort Valley Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division responded and conducted a murder investigation with the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

A person of interest was identified, and the case is still under investigation, according to Flores.
