UPDATE: Search for Clues in Giddings Murder Yields No Results

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Macon police spokeswoman Jami Gaudet has confirmed to 41NBC that investigators found nothing in Friday’s search for the remains of slain Mercer Law grad Lauren Giddings.

The GBI Crime Scene Unit, Macon Police and Houston County Sheriff’s Office were searching with cadaver dogs off GA 49 east of Byron based on a tip from a woman who said she remembered seeing a man who may have been Stephen McDaniel, the man accused in the 2011 murder, walking out of the woods around the time Giddings disappeared.

Investigators began their search at 9:30am Friday, according to Major Charles Stone with the Macon Police Department.

Sgt. Scott Chatman with MPD says they are trying to bring closure to the Giddings family and they take every tip seriously.

“A lot of our efforts is to simply bring peace to the family and anymore evidence we can find is also our goal as well,” Chatman said. “It seemed like a good tip. Any tip we’re always going to check behind, we’re going to check the credibility of that tip and we’re going to pursue all leads involved in that tip in every case we work.”

Stone says this is not the first tip of this kind they have received in this case.

Giddings’ torso was found back in July 2011 in trash can at her Georgia Avenue apartments. The rest of her remains have yet to be found. McDaniel, her former classmate and neighbor, has been in jail for the murder since 2011.
