UPDATE: Plane Crashes near Macon Downtown Airport
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A plane landing at the Macon Downtown Airport hydroplaned, went over an embankment and Ocmulgee East Boulevard, and landed in a wooded area nearby.
Spokesperson for the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Lieutenant Sean Defoe, says the accident happened just after 10 am. According to Flight-Aware, a live flight-tracking website, the plane left Charleston, SC at 9:24 am.
Defoe says, the co-pilot told deputies the inclement weather, and standing water on the runway caused the accident. There were three people on the plane a pilot, co-pilot, and a passenger traveling on business to Macon with Dewberry Air Corporation.
Defoe says the co-pilot, and passenger got out of the plane unharmed. The pilot had to be cut out by fire-fighters, but was not injured.
The Federal Aviation Administration took over the investigation. An investigator with the F-A-A will determine the cause of the accident.
