MONTEZUMA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Several suspects have been arrested in connection to a robbery and fugitive search that occurred in Macon County Thursday afternoon, according to a news release from the Montezuma Police Department.
Jason Lamar White, 34, was apprehended after a four hour long manhunt involving police officers from Montezuma, Oglethorpe, Marshallville, as well as deputies from Macon, Dooly, Houston, and Schley Counties. The Georgia State Patrol, the GSP Aviation Unit, and members of Americus Probation also assisted.
White and Benjamin James McLemore, 31, are being charged with Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felons after they allegedly attempted to rob the victim at gunpoint of a home security camera system that was being sold over the internet. White is also wanted out of Houston County for Aggravated Assault and for being a sex offender.
McLemore was caught inside of a nearby residence after the suspects fled their pick-up truck when it ran off of the road near Highway 26 and Peed Pond Road.
The victim, Randall Kenneth Coker, claims he fought over the gun and was shot in the hand. He was sent to the Flint River Community Hospital and later released.
April Attaway, 29, was also arrested after a tip was called in concerning a suspicious vehicle in the area. Further investigation revealed that Attaway had driven to Macon County in order to find and retrieve White.
Attaway placed a call to White’s cell phone, which was then tracked by the officer’s own cell phones, E-911 systems, and Google Earth until the fugitive was flushed out and arrested.
Officers went to the residence where the alleged robbery took place and found Marcus Wesley Brannen, 25, at the location. It was discovered that he was in violation of his probation and arrested.
Ms. Attaway was charged with Apprehension of a Fugitive.
The victim, Mr. Coker, was also arrested on Probation Violation when it was revealed that he was wanted in Columbus, Georgia, and for not registering as a sex offender.
Currently, all of the suspects are being held at the Macon County Jail with additional charges pending.
