UPDATE: Man arrested for shooting woman on Log Cabin Drive over the weekend connected to 2020 murder
According to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office, the case is still open with the District Attorney's Office.

(UPDATE 12/10/2024 – 4:17 p.m.) The District Attorney’s Office released the following statement regarding Jahrius Isaiah Justus Whitehead in connection to the 2020 murder:
“At this time, our office has determined there is insufficient evidence to present this case to the Grand Jury for indictment to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. We have identified for the Sheriff’s Office specific evidence that requires crime lab analysis. We will reassess the case once the lab tests are complete.”
(UPDATE 12/10/2024 – 12:54 p.m.): The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that 32-year-old Jahrius Isaiah Justus Whitehead who shot 58-year-old Samantha Jones on December 7, 2024, is connected to the murder of 27-year-old Doug Boyd on April 19, 2020.
Whitehead was taken to the Bibb County Jail and charged with murder in 2020.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the case is still open with the District Attorney’s Office.
(UPDATE 12/10/2024 – 9:34 a.m.): A man was arrested for shooting a woman on Log Cabin Drive on Saturday afternoon, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a press release, investigators received video footage from the incident that showed a black vehicle fleeing the scene.
The vehicle was spotted near the Bloomfield area. The vehicle was later spotted in the area of Shurlington Drive. Investigators spotted a Hyundai and attempted to initiate a traffic stop by activating lights and sirens, but the driver refused to stop.
Investigators attempted to make contact with the driver, but he began throwing items outside of the vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody after a brief pursuit. Deputies say a large amount of marijuana was collected during the investigation.
The driver was identified as 32-year-old Jahrius Isaiah Justus Whitehead.
Whitehead was taken into custody in connection with the shooting on Log Cabin Drive and charged with aggravated assault.
The incident is still under investigation, and additional charges are pending.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A woman is in critical condition after being shot Saturday on Log Cabin Drive, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
It happened just before 1 p.m. in the 3700 block of Log Cabin Drive near the intersection of Pike Street.
Deputies responded to Log Cabin Drive in reference to shots being fired. 58-year-old Samantha Jones was taken to a medical facility by ambulance with a gunshot wound. Jones is listed in critical condition.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, investigators are working to determine what led to the shooting. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
