UPDATE: Macon Woman Hit By Baseball Bat Dies, Suspect Charged with Murder

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Macon man is charged with murder after police say he hit a woman in the head with a bat, resulting in her death.

49-year-old John Conover is charged with felony murder, battery, and aggravated assault in connection with the death of 46-year-old Alterese Carter. It happened on Friday night on Mercer Street.

Macon Police say the altercation stemmed from an argument between Conover and Carter’s 12-year-old son. Carter’s husband was also hit while trying to protect his wife.

Police say Carter was taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia after the fight that night by her husband in the family’s van. Bibb County Leon Jones says Carter was pronounced dead Saturday night.
