UPDATE: Macon-Bibb DA says Lizella woman shot at officers, causing police to shoot back killing her
LIZELLA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon-Bibb District Attorney’s Office is releasing new information on the officer involved shooting that killed a Lizella woman, last week.
D.A David Cooke says the woman, Kacey Gay, shot at officers causing Bibb County Deputy Bruce Jordan to shoot Gay twice in self-defense. Cooke says Gay and Robert Williams ran inside when officers arrived last Tuesday.
According to Cooke, Gay resisted officers and refused to take her hands out of her jacket pockets. Jordan placed Gay face down on the floor, but her hands were tucked underneath.
She fired a round from a 380-caliber handgun.
“Officers put their lives on the line daily to keep our community safe. In this case it’s clear that these officers feared for their lives and acted in self-defense, as is allowed by law,” Cooke said.
The investigation is ongoing.
