UPDATE: Bibb Sheriff’s Office makes arrest in Wings Cafe shooting

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – 35-year-old Dashon Johnston of Macon has been arrested and is charged with robbery after a shooting left two dead at Wings Cafe early Friday.

Investigators say Johnston took money off a fatally wounded victim, George Henley.  Surveillance video shows the fight started around 2 a.m. Friday at the business on Bloomfield Drive.

“The whole situation took less than five minutes from the beginning of the altercation into when the gunfire erupted,” Bibb Sheriff David Davis said during a news conference.

Two people were fatally shot: 25-year-old Cory Hollingshed and 34-year-old Henley. Four others were injured: 29-year-old Markques Patterson, 23-year-old Jacquez Foster, 23-year-old Nastajah Taylor and 38-year-old Derrick Johnson.

Davis says Henley and Taylor were innocent bystanders, but the others could have played a role in the incident.

“Some of those we’ve been able to identify that they may have been involved in the shooting or they may have been involved in some of the altercation which led up to the shooting,” Davis said.

Commissioners consider closing business

Macon-Bibb Commissioners Al Tillman and Virgil Watkins say there are too many problems coming out of Wings Cafe. They want to take legal action to shut the bar down.

“I think it’s the right thing to do at this point because it is a true safety issue,” Tillman said.

Tillman says five deaths, including this shooting, stem from incidents that happened at Wings Cafe. Watkins adds they are notifying the owner that the Macon-Bibb government plans to revoke his alcohol license and close the business.

“This is the first time we will actually be evoking this rule, but I think it is totally necessary and can serve some benefit to our community,” Watkins said.

Davis says Friday’s shooting could have been prevented if the people involved didn’t draw their guns so quickly.

“We’ve got to do something about conflict resolution. People need to know when the stop signs come up and you’re having a conflict with others gunfire doesn’t have to be brought into this,” Davis said.

Davis believes this shooting stems from an ongoing situation between certain groups. He adds his office is looking into other improper activities going on at the night club.

One of the victims who was injured has been released from the hospital. The others are in stable condition.

Watkins says commissioners plan to introduce legislation during next Tuesday’s board meeting which would start the investigation process into possibly shutting down Wings Cafe.

If you have information about the shooting, you’re asked to call the Bibb Sheriff’s Office at (478) 751-7500 or CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-877-68CRIME.
